TRUDY WADE versus Katie Dorsett for NC Senate

February 25, 2010 – 10:46 pm

TRUDY WADE versus Katie Dorsett for NC Senate.

Update: Confirming by phone this morning The Great Race will happen. And as usual “scoop extraordinaire” Jordan Green goes into better detail with actual back up quotes. But hey Jordan, I’ve got a photo of Basnight shaking in his boots.

Update: Dorsett unfiles. Dorsett’s “handing off the torch” strategy doesn’t work. A slap in the face to Bruce Davis. More to come. Joe Killian writes on the subject.

  2. Holy Cow, this could be a really interesting contest. Sen. Dorsett never saw this coming. She only has $22K in the bank, most of her fundraising comes from business PACs and the Democrat are making it harder and harder for businesses to support them. Sen. Basnight needs to hear about this right away. Oh, wait a minute, he has a challenger too. Where’s the money gonna come from now…..

  3. now that is a showdown, and it is in my district , but there is a civitas nc partisan index on each nc senate district and the dems have a +16 advantage. Anyone can be beaten though. Who would have thunk a R winning the senate seat in Mass.

  4. This is nice to see.

“Who would have thunk a R winning the senate seat in Mass.”

Heck, until last year I wouldn’t have thought a Republican could have become mayor of Greensboro. In light of that, this race seems doable.

  5. Actually, Tony, that one was me… on a tip from Jordan Green. He’s working on the cover story this week. News & Record got it up about 45 minutes later.

  6. Now that’s going to be interesting. Do you have a map of that district? I bet I can pick the winner based on looking at it.

  7. As per N&R Dorsett did not file. If true, this one could be wide open. Just keeps gettin interestinger and interestinger around here!

  8. Actually Mick Dorsett “unfiled”. A post to come on that soon. And you’re right, it gets gooder and gooder.
Cool Brian. And “yes” to your question at EC’s, but lightly.

  9. I wonder if Dr. Wade was ‘insider trading’ when she filed. Did she know that Ms. Dorsett was not going to run? I thought it odd she’d give up a council seat to take on and entrenched incumbent. I hope she wins.

  10. Watch that BWI — could get you in trouble someday…

  11. Roger, what an interesting day. I’ll give my play by play theory soon.
    Brian, you’re one funny guy.

  12. “gooder and gooder?”

I’m not sure I can support someone who can’t use better grammar than that!

  13. I was parroting someone who you love very much that I heard say that earlier in the day. Guess who.

By Tony Wilkins on Feb 26, 2010

  14. How is Dr. Wade giving up a seat? She remains on Council until she is sworn in as Senator unless she chooses to step down earlier.

By Bruce on Feb 27, 2010

  15. Right Bruce. Roger may have thought Dr. Wade would have to resign to run. Not the case.

By Tony Wilkins on Feb 27, 2010

  16. I’m corrected on her having to step down. Can she serve both on City Council and State Senate?
If she wins will there be an open council seat? How is that resolved if so?

By Roger Greene on Feb 28, 2010

  17. She will have to step down from council when she wins the Senate race. The council will appoint a replacement for the remaining term.

By Tony Wilkins on Feb 28, 2010

  18. “She will have to step down from council when she wins the Senate race.”

IF she wins the Senate race.

  19. Guilty as charged jw.

  20. Actually, I just recently got rid of one I had from before.

“Before.” You remember before don’t you? Back when she was a Democrat and had pictures of herself with Bill Clinton on her campaign materials?

  21. I’m a political rookie. I don’t go back that far.

  22. Ah! Then listen to me, Grasshopper.
