Today I ate the tongue.

I couldn’t wait any longer for cherpickr’s review of the lengua.
Today, in my quest to try the entire menu, I had the tacos with beef tongue at Carniceria El Mercadito #2, 3821-A High Point Rd.
It was okay but I wouldn’t prefer it over the pollo and you don’t have to absorb the responsibility and guilt of a mooless bovine.
My favorite continues to be the quesadilla al pastor which requires a siesta.
Update: After finding the above photo of what I just ate I’m considering sticking my finger down my throat and becoming a vegetarian. It looks too much like another part a little farther down that I’m sure I don’t want to try.
Additional Update: Beware of the following hazard. Tough guy here chose to down the roasted jalapenos that came with my meal today. Without thinking of washing my hands I casually rubbed my eyes which sent me into a mad dash to the restroom sink. In my hurried and panicky state I bumped my head hard on the sink faucet knocking me unconscious. I’m heading back to the Thai food kick. This Spanish stuff is dangerous.

Tony,
Beef tongue is a delicacy. My mother-in-law taught my wife to cook it. Brown gravy, mashed potatoes and beef tongue.. it doesn’t get any better. I have been eating tongue for 50 years now. They are hard to find at the big box stores. Sams Old Fahion Meat and Seafood usually has them in stock.
Tony, have you ever considered what is in that Oscar Myer hot dog you no doubt enjoy.. pigs eyelids, lips and other parts of the animal I won’t mention.
Bon Appetit

I just tried the one on Spring Garden today for lunch because of your consistent raving… Wow, the tacos con pollo are incredible! $5 and only 5 minutes from my office for all that delicious food? I’ll definitely be back. No tongue for me, though!

Thanks Fred. Do you ever dream, “moo”?
And Ryan I’m glad you enjoyed it. Order the quesadilla al pastor and hang on.
